Lawrence P. CurreyLawrence P. Currey - trumpet, Quartet Con Brio, Fort Collins, COOriginally from El Paso, Texas, Larry received his business degree from New Mexico State University, where he picked up his early playing experiences, performing with every ensemble that used the trumpet.  His performing career includes nine seasons as the second trumpet with the El Paso Symphony and a decade split as the principal trumpet with El Paso’s Pro-Musica and the Bruce Nehring Consort (a chamber chorus and orchestra).  He was a founding member of El Paso’s Quintessential Brass, which is currently one of the country’s longest continually running brass quintets. 

Locally, he’s the founder of Fort Collins’ Colorado Brass Company, plays with the Fort Collins Wind Symphony and the chamber group, Ethos West.  He’s been a soloist with the El Paso Symphony, the Bruce Nehring Consort, Fort Collins’ Front Range Chamber Players, the Laudamus chamber chorus and Ethos West.  He has also played with the Fort Collins, Greeley and Cheyenne Symphonies, the Front Range Chamber Players, and currently serves as the principal trumpet for the Larimer Chorale.  Along the way, he’s played for or with a host of orchestral soloists and quite a range of other celebrities and acts, including Wynton Marsalis, Clark Terry, Andy Williams, Johnny Mathis, The Four Tops, Red Skelton, Shari Lewis (and Lamb Chop), Rita Moreno, Twila Paris, Juan Gabriel, the Empire Brass, Les Elgart, The Ringling Brother’s Barnum and Bailey Circus and The Ice Capades.

Larry’s also a Certified Energy Manager.  In that life he serves as the President of Integrated Energy Solutions, Inc., a consulting firm that helps universities and school districts cut their utility expenses and reduce their carbon footprints.  He’s happily married to violinist/violist Jean Currey.  The couple lives in Fort Collins with their “chowder collie,” Mollie.  Daughter Diane is a cellist living in St. Louis with her husband Josh and son Thomas is a trumpeter and a student at Hillsdale College in Michigan.
